This superbridge zoom camera has a 16-megapixel CMOS image sensor with backside illumination and an ISO range of 100–6400. Like most superbridge cameras, this one borrows features from DSLR cameras, such as the Coolpix P900’s PSAM dial which will allow you to customize your aperture and shutter speed. If you prefer to use pre-programmed modes, take advantage of Auto, Night, Moon, Portrait, and Landscape modes.

Compose images according to your whim using the mobile 3-inch 921-dot vari-angle LCD, which can capture photos and videos from any angle you can imagine. If you prefer to use your eye to compose, the 0.2-inch 921-dot high-resolution viewfinder will give you an accurate reflection of your subject.

An optical zoom lens magnifies images from 83x to 166x (using Dynamic Fine Zoom), which is equivalent to 2000 mm–4000 mm. When you need to zoom out quickly, take advantage of the Snap-Back Zoom button. As soon as you’re ready to zoom back in on your subject, release the button and this camera will do it automatically. If your subject is in motion, this camera will be able to keep up since it takes burst shots at 7 fps. And, to further enhance motion photography, it features a contrast detection autofocus system.

The Coolpix P900 is an excellent choice for video as well. Take full HD 1920 x 1080p videos at 60 fps or slow-motion video at 480p and 120 fps, and get great sound from the built-in stereo recording capability. When shooting in video mode or stills at low shutter speeds, camera shake can be reduced up to five stops thanks to the Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction System.

The Nikon EN-EL23 battery holds up to 360 shots per charge, so bring a backup battery for long shoots. You will only get JPEGs, not raw files, and your SDHC/XC 128 GB memory cards will have to be 128 GB or less, so keep that in mind.

Although a wonderful all-in-one option, it’s not weather sealed, and it weighs in on the heavy side at 3.6 pounds. However, built-in GPS, WiFi, and Near Field Communication technology (NFC) make it easy to turn your phone or tablet into a remote control, and sharing photos easy.
