The Canon EF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens is a versatile telephoto zoom that performs during a wide variety of applications, from portraits to wildlife photography. Although designed for full-frame DSLRs, it’s compatible with crop sensors and will provide a 112–320mm equivalent focal length. A constant f/2.8 maximum aperture makes this lens a go-to in low light situations, and eight rounded blades create smooth bokeh and depth of field.
The lens design features 23 elements divided into 19 groups, including five UD elements and one fluorite element, which eliminate chromatic aberrations and color fringing. All are coated with Canon’s Air Sphere Coating and Super Spectra Coating to defeat flare and ghosting from bright or backlit conditions. Images will be sharp, color correct, and have high-contrast.
Autofocus is fast, accurate, and silent, owing to Canon’s Ultrasonic Motor and internal focusing mechanism. A full-time manual focus override is available. This lens has an optical image stabilizer to minimize camera shake by up to 3.5 stops, so you’ll be able to capture the shot no matter how low the light gets. It also has a focus-limiter, which will constrain your focus from 3.9 feet to infinity or 8.2 feet to infinity. You’ll have standard IS-mode and another mode for panning.
Since this lens is weather-resistant, you can shoot in pretty much any condition. And you won’t have to worry about smudges and fingerprints ruining your perfect shot — the front and rear elements are coated with fluorine. It has a 34° to 12° angle of view, maximum magnification of 0.21x, a minimum focusing distance of 3.94 feet, and is compatible with 77mm filters.
